Point well taken. The ships often are not fully ready when they come out from dry-dock/refurbishment. Remember the Queen Elizabeth 2 fiasco? You have a certain outlook to travel just after a vessel is out of the shipyards. Imagine Prinsendam a quite different ship from when I sailed in her as Royal Viking Sun. Thank you for your input.

I have had a previous encounter with refurbishment of the MV Prinsendaam; this happened immediately following her purchase from Seabourne Cruise Lines. Allegedly she had just come out of a refurbishment and we were on her second voyage following the alleged repairs. [Baltics Sea] All was not well, on the contrary. I forwarded my concerns to HAL and received a US $500.00 voucher for my wife and me in response.
So, maybe travelling on her prior to the reoairs being accomplished is actually better than following the refurbishment, who knows what one might find.

Hi Casey:-
While this might be possible in general, I suspect you"re too late. This type of travel needs to be booked far earlier. The ships run full, medical certificates are necessary and payments/documentation needs to be organized. you're likely thinking 2 months absolute minimum. You might to contact fcherney@thecruisepeople.ca for suggestions.

I'm a gap-year student looking for adventure and an alternative to flying.

I'd like to go from Western Europe (preferrably the UK) to Canada or South America.... though cheap is certainly better!

I regret that this voyage is yet another victim of the financial downturn and increased US security. The service was withdrawn a few weeks ago.

Sorry to report that the financial situation has removed most of our trans-Atlantic ships.
We have one ship from the east coast of the USA and Polish Ocean (PZM) from Cleveland, Chicago (Burns Harbor), and, less frequently, from the lakehead. Destination will vary with cargo.
There is also a ship (Melfi Iberia) from Montreal in summer and from Halifax in winter. She sails to the Mediterranean via Cuba. Security requires passengers to carry a Canadian or European passport and to purchase a Cuban tourist visa.
Please contact us for more information.
