I’m back from 2 weeks at sea and would like to take this opportunity to tell you what is happening in the passenger freighter world.
You are all aware of the financial woes spreading all over the world. They are resulting in a slowdown in manufacturing, demand and shipping of everything from oil to commodities to manufactured goods. In many cases, there are large surplus inventories.
The reduction in shipping and the need for storage combine to remove ships from trade routes and press them into service as storage facilities. This month, we lost one of the four remaining ships on the run between Montreal and Northern Europe. This service is down from twelve ships a few years ago.
One client had two ships pulled from the service he booked in two weeks.
On Monday, I received word of a new service and was in the process of writing a release to tell you about it. The next day, word was received not to offer it as the ship had changed itineraries.
Is there still product to sell? YES! Many of the longer runs – Around the World, The Far East, Australia/NZ, and Panama transits – are quite stable and still selling well. You just have to be aware of the need for flexibility!
If you are interested in finding out more about this interesting and exciting means of travel, please don’t hesitate to send me your questions. This is still one of the safest and most stress-free way of travelling for singles. You’d be amazed how many ladies voyage alone and love it. In most cases, singles pay no single supplement or a token one.

The Cruise People’s Freighter Specialist Reports
22 January, 2009 by cruise2
Greetings Fred,
Glad to see your at it. The Cruise People seem to still be doing well. How are John & family doing? Say hello to all for me.
Listen, what ever happened to the ship “Galileo” was she decommissioned?
Take care,
Tim Hoyle
Hi Tim. John here. Family and Fred well, thank you.
Galileo after sailing for Chandris/Fantasy Cruises received extensive rebuilding to emerge as Meridian of Celebrity Cruises.
As Celebrity took delivery of purpose built cruise ships she was sold to a Far East company to operate programmes, I think, out of Singapore.
It was not successful and she burned at sea under suspicious circumstances. No one was hurt.
She now lies on the bottom.
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I sent an e-mail a week or so ago regarding a trip from Singapore to Canada, Spring 2010.
Can you help please?
Kind regards,
Colin Kelly
